"Mexico lindo e querido! ... As the songs says...
It is impossible to forget all the experiences and people of this great country where I arrived years ago... My pretty and beloved Mexico..., I came to teach, but I learn and received so much more.
It´s been fundamental for my profession my acquaintance and experiences lived with all the beautiful people I have met throughout all these years in Mexico.
I treasure great occurrences and experiences, among which the most important for me are the love and friendship I have found in this country. My students have become my family and they´ve made me feel as part of theirs. We have shared happiness, triumphs and even woes.
I came very young to Mexico teach, and since the first moment I felt the richness and color of this country, full, of culture and traditions which makes it unique. I´ve learned to be one of them, to eat hot chilli, to drink tequila, to know and enjoy their culinary richness, to express myself with the typical happiness of Mexicans, to feel Mexican.
I am grateful to Mexico, my students, their husbands and children, their friends... everyone who has given me so much love and affection. I thank God for giving me the opportunity of living among these warmhearted and detached people, for being a light in the immense humanity, and to the Mexicans, for allowing me to shine in the entrusted task of teaching and spreading porcelain painting."
-- Filipe Pereira 2008
Life is not measured in the days we have lived, but in the lessons we have learned. These words fit in every sense when one meets this great master. Exceptional human being, bosom friend, Filipe, an artist born great, offers in his second book a set of ideas come to life in eloquent pieces and images of extraordinary quality. It is our wish that you will enjoy this book as much as we did in producing it, and may it serve as a teaching of the fine art that is porcelain painting.

"To my Parents
Since my early childhood, I drew constantly on notebooks, walls, sand, and anywhere I could use my coloring pencils.
I was attracted to my mother´s tureens and her china.
My father however was a bit reluctant to my choices, and didn´t understand how the light and the colors of these beautiful pieces fascinated me. But little by little, my determination showed him my vocation: to paint on porcelain.
I am grateful to my parents for taking me to the beautiful island of Madeira, where my love for the amazing flowers, gardens and landscapes bloomed. Their incredible beauty exalted my love of nature. Even then, as a child, I gathered mud to form roses, petal by petal. Roses are still today my favorite flower.
My father with his patience and religious personality watched me and tried to dissuade me.
My mother, with the same attitude, didn´t understand why I was so motivated to paint on my notebooks, on the walls, on the mud pots, ceramics, porcelain and anything else that came to hand.
I dedicate this book to my parents. Because now, I think I could explain why I have became a porcelain painter.
Thanks to them, their questioning and doubts, I was forced to prove the contrary, and today, wherever they are, I know they are proud of my achievements."
-- Filipe Pereira 2004
